ErythroFaith 500mg contains Erythromycin, a macrolide antibiotic that treats various bacterial infections. This broad-spectrum antibiotic is effective against many respiratory, skin, and soft tissue infections by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
Uses
ErythroFaith 500mg treats respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, whooping cough, diphtheria, Legionnaires’ disease, and certain sexually transmitted infections. It’s also used for acne, dental infections, and as an alternative for penicillin-allergic patients.
Benefits
- Effective against various gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria
- Suitable alternative for penicillin-allergic patients
- Demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties beyond antibacterial effects
- Penetrates well into most tissues and body fluids
- Available for different patient populations including children
- Established safety profile with decades of clinical use
- Often effective against respiratory pathogens
- Can be used for prophylaxis in certain conditions
- Minimal impact on intestinal anaerobic flora
How It Works
Erythromycin binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, preventing protein synthesis essential for bacterial growth and reproduction. This bacteriostatic action inhibits bacterial cell multiplication, allowing the body’s immune system to eliminate the infection effectively.
Dosage
Condition | Adult Dosage | Duration |
---|---|---|
Respiratory infections | 500mg every 6-12 hours | 7-14 days |
Skin infections | 500mg every 6 hours | 7-10 days |
STIs | 500mg every 6 hours | According to protocol |
Take ErythroFaith preferably on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, may be taken with food.
Duration of Action
ErythroFaith reaches effective blood levels within 1-2 hours after oral administration. The antibiotic maintains therapeutic concentration for 6-12 hours depending on dosage. Symptom improvement typically begins within 24-72 hours, but complete the full prescribed course to prevent bacterial resistance.
Side Effects
Common side effects include stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Less common effects are rash, headache, and reversible hearing loss (with high doses). Serious but rare side effects include allergic reactions, liver problems, and irregular heartbeat.
Warning
Complete the entire prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Premature discontinuation may lead to antibiotic resistance. May cause QT interval prolongation in susceptible individuals. Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with most antibiotics including erythromycin. Seek immediate medical attention for severe diarrhea, rash, or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
ErythroFaith is generally considered safe during pregnancy when clearly needed. It is classified as pregnancy category B. Small amounts are excreted in breast milk but are generally considered compatible with breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider before use.
Interaction
- May increase levels of certain statins, increasing muscle toxicity risk
- Can raise blood levels of warfarin, increasing bleeding risk
- Potential QT prolongation when combined with certain antiarrhythmics
- May increase theophylline levels, leading to toxicity
- Possible reduced efficacy of oral contraceptives
- May interact with certain calcium channel blockers
Precaution
Use with caution in patients with liver disease, myasthenia gravis, or history of QT prolongation. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to hearing impairment. May cause superinfection with prolonged use. Monitor liver function during extended therapy. Not effective against viral infections such as colds or flu.
Important Information
Take exactly as prescribed. Avoid antacids within 2 hours of ErythroFaith. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Report any unusual symptoms to your healthcare provider. Complete follow-up testing if recommended. This medication treats bacterial infections only and will not work for viral infections.
